Mike Grehan, posts his report on the SEMPO meeting

The Afterburn: Rabble-rouser, industry commentator and closet Toni Basil fan, Mike Grehan, posts his report on the SEMPO meeting. Quick summary: little was done, but there were a lot of commercials. Erm, yes.

Smart move: Google negates some downside risk by clearing up the patent issue surrounding PPC listings. Yahoo gets a cut.

What will you be doing in 2009? I don't know, my stock-broker doesn't know, but Jupiter Media, an online advertising network, predicts that "online advertising will more than double over the next five years, while paid search will no longer be the sole driver of online ad spending". Uh-huh.

SearchEngineBlog predicts that a horde of venture capitalists will come streaming over the hills and offer quite ludicrous amounts of cash for this blog, based on the fact that I predict our ad revenue will leap 1,000,000 times in the next ten years. That's the great thing about predictions - by 2009, no one remembers you made them, so you can just make stuff up.
