Adsense Smart Pricing Formula

A few people have been talking about the contents of this thread at WMW in relation to the way Google decides how much to pay publishers. It is claimed that "....with Smart Pricing, if you have multiple sites, and one of them performs badly, it will lower your earnings not only for that 1 site, but for all sites in the account."

More discussion at Threadwatch.

Methinks publishers are going to want more transparency from Google, or any syndicated advertising provider, for that matter.

Why should the risk be passed to the publisher just because an advertiser can't convert? Can we, as publishers, screen out these underperforming advertisers?
