No Surprises
Dave Winer is concerned about the blogsphere crapfest: "Links are now devalued. Page-rank is under attack and the attackers are winning. It won't be long before Google itself is infested".
The blogsphere is so far behind on this.
The SEM crowd, of course, know that PageRank was under serious attack a few years back, but Update Florida changed that particular game. And these days, some links are valuable, others less so. There's also a lot to be said for having a site that real people actually visit, etc...
The problem is that the blog voting mechanism (i.e. a basic popularity contest) is wide open. And that auto-generated content has found such a comfortable new home.
Perhaps the Blogsphere is entering the "AltaVista Stage" of evolution.
