Ask Boldly Goes....
Ask has dumped Jeeves, and made a few other changes including maps, search tools and results clustering. Teoma is now officially dead.
As Battelle points out: "Ask.com now has the fewest ads of any major search destination on the first screen of results. With Smart Answers, Ask.com is also the only search engine to place editorial results above advertisements".
An interesting we're-less-commercial-than-the-other-guys play, although the number of ads, and their visual prominence, should leave no one in doubt that this remains a commercial enterprise.
Add Gary Price to the mix and it is clear that Ask wants their offering to be seen as a serious search choice, as opposed to the soft-and-fluffy Jeeves of old.
