Danny Sullivan had an interesting newsletter this morning - Google privacy concerns , aggressive linking strategies - the only strategy you need?

Over at Webmasterworld, PPC- Soundview thinks MSN & Yahoo will go it alone. Overture stock down 18%. UPDATE: MS deny working on PPC (thanks Brett)

Microsoft is significantly stepping up its investment in search technology

Head for figures? The Iraq-o-meter keeps score. (thanks Alex Bennet for the tip). Also check out Iraq Body Count.

Finally, truly disturbing

Google set to rule the online paid search market. "...search will expand from its current form to have a much wider scope in functionality and monetization and could become one of the biggest revenue segments for portals around the world"

Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Peter Arnett, sacked by American TV for telling the truth about the war, is joining the Daily Mirror.

Finally, Terry Jones, of Monty Python fame, is getting annoyed with his neighbours. Just like Mr. Bush. (thanks Kim for the link)

Hmmm.April 1. Google buys "My Daily Diary" blog, written by 13 year old Lucy Fitzroy, for $2.6m. It is, as yet, unclear why. Also, Sergey Brin declares that seo is "fine by me", and George Bush speaks to a crowd that isn't made up entirely of staunch right-wing republicans hand selected from the military.

The ever-clever Barry Lloyd explains his approach to selling SEM services.

Kartoo, the graphical search engine, now offering a non-graphical interface.

Finally, US forms own UN.

Part Two of our PPC interview, which is generating unprecedented feedback - obviously there are a *lot* of people exploring PPC right now. This week: the similarities between PPC and SEO, and we begin to look at how to approach PPC on behalf of clients.

Hidden AllTheWeb techniques, including link counts, page counts, whois information, and even a link to the WayBack machine.

The blogs of war - including blogs from the frontline.

Finally, there is nothing remotely funny about the week past. REM put it well.

Sergey Brin plays down IPO plans. The statement suggests Google were looking at it fairly closely, contrary to previous "no plans to IPO" announcements. We suspect it's simply a timing issue - how stupid would you have to be to launch a tech IPO in the current market?

At long last, Donald Rumsfeld says something I agree with - countries should honour international law and abide by the Geneva convention. Let's start with Guantanamo Bay.

We've heard a lot from embedded media, now let's hear from un-embedded media, who are far closer, literally, to what is really going on. It's a quagmire .

Google ramps up Australian presence and teams up with some local big boys for ad distribution.

Is it time for a professional search marketing organisation? With agreement on the makeup of such an organisation about as likely as Suddam Hussein and George Bush having a friendly get- together, organisers have a task on their hands. Will be interesting to follow their progress.

We noted a response to the first part of our PPC interview - it appears some old skool seo's have "mixed feelings" about PPC. Fair enough. Remember, PPC is just another channel, not a replacement for seo. If you want to learn about PPC, and reap the benefits, stay tuned. Part 2 coming up this Friday.

As the war for <insert latest buzzword here> stumbles on, the sad reality is beginning to dawn on a mislead public: war is hell. On an unrelated note, Haliburton - a company which used to have Dick Cheney as CEO - has been one of the first to pick up a lucrative rebuilding contract. It should be noted, to provide balance if nothing else, that Hussein continues to be an evil cad, and the poor soldiers and civilians are caught in the middle. Sad, sad times. Updated by the minute, of course.

Do you undertake pay-per-click campaigns?

Have you tried them, but didn't quite get all you wanted from them? Starting today, I'm talking to three ppc experts, Andrew Goodman, Ammon Johns and Jim Banks. This roundtable interview will explain everything you need to know about ppc and will be spread over the next few weeks (because it's huge!). A fantastic ppc masterclass. Topic today: why undertake ppc?

Finally, my friend, and SearchEngineBlog web designer Sophie Best is getting married tomorrow. All the best, Sophie :)

Common wisdom dictates one should not enter into debates on sex, politics or religion.

Sod it. There's a war on, I can't pretend it isn't happening. Besides, I'm a blogger ;) Here's the view from alt.media:

(Possibly) words from beneath the bombs. Blogging live from Iraq here and here.

Mike Moore writes.

Lies, damn lies, and ulimatums. Careful what you say, people might actually be listening.

The six lessons of 911. Have the terrorists won already?

Creepy...
