From the
"where-do-they-find-the-time"
department: the spam police
have got themselves organised
and formed a club called engine-spam.com.
A joke, surely.
Obviously
I can't
provide a link, as
that may well be considered
a blatant attempt to boost
their PR from what may well
be a link
farm, however you might
want
to have a
look at www.engine-spam.com.
Trainspotters may
be interested
to note a potential trademark
violation in relation to
a certain canned meat product.
Tsk, tsk (Thanks legal-eagle
Bill for
the tip)
Cre8asite celebrate one year in existence.
I'll drink to that.
Overture
and Google play the "mine
is bigger" game.
Part 3 of
the "behind
the scenes at DayPop.com"
interview on SEW.
Highlights
of day two at SES.
Dubbed rather
modestly as "...(what)
could be literally the most
important
event of its kind that you've
ever
attended", Mike Grehan
and Jim Sterne offer a search
engine marketing masterclass on
October 1st. It goes without
saying that there is a bar
session afterwards.

Pictures
of the Google
Dance 2003
I wanted
to steal this one from my dear
friends at Traffick (put that
lawyer away, Mr Goodman ;).....then
decided just to send you there
instead. Traffick is great.
A round-up of the SES
conference. Funniest bit:
someone is hoping
mad when he discovers that
some results are paid advertisments.
Kinda like those new fangled
newspaper things, really. PS:
Rumours that this guy was simply
trying to de-ramp Overture's
share price are completely
baseless.
Testing,
testing. Inktomi appears
then disappears from the
Yahoo serps.
Can anyone
say vapourware? More on the MSN
search engine. Yes, yes,
believe it when we see it etc....
Seth Goldin
has a few
ideas for Google. Now if
only he was a programmer....

SEMPO launches.
And what is their mission statement? "Working
to increase awareness and promote
the value of Search Engine
Marketing worldwide".
I note they've included something
called searchengineblog.com
in the resources
section - isn't that nice
:) That man Sullivan bravely
tackles the often controversial "glossary
of terms".
"We
have every intention of deploying
Inktomi...globally",
says Yahoo. OK, so it didn't
happen this week, as was
rumoured. Let's all place
bets on when.

Yahoo
give the clearest indication
yet that the Inktomi
thing is not just a rumour
(thanks news-hound Sophie for
the tip)
Most know
it already. The
dance is dead.
Ranking
drops. Webmaster complains.
Creates debate on social
responsibility. Googleguy
steps in. No conclusions
reached. No surprises there,
really.

SES kicks
off. Yahoo not mentioning Google
once. It's fair to say they
didn't mention Inktomi either.
There's some photos floating
about (behind closed doors)
including snaps from the latest
Google Dance.
More
on SES and an overview
on the state of the industry.
It's all
PPC, baby.

Overture
move to broad and phrase
matching, and thus go
head to head with AdWords.
Looks like one of the rumours
was true. Let's see if "the
big one" happens....
Related
news: Yahoo
stalked Overture for
over a year prior to aquisition. "Microsoft
has indicated it will reassess
its relationship with Overture
after the Yahoo deal is done".

For those
new to webmastery and feeling
overwhelmed by the requirements
of building search engine friendly
sites, web designer Sophie
Wegat provides an easy-to-follow
check list in her article: How
to build search engine friendly
web sites.
News just
in! (I've always wanted to
say that): Blackouts?
Yahoo too
might be jumping
on the blogging bandwagon.
More breaking
news: (gosh) - I'm an uncle!
So welcome to the world, and
happy birthday, Ms Stewart.

There are
many rumours flying about at
the moment. But we can't repeat
a word of it. Yet. So we won't.
Until next week. Perhaps.
Google
Toolbar 2.0 is out of
beta.
Andrew
Orlowski wonders why anyone
would pay $500 to spend a
weekend talking about blogging.
Agreed. About as stimulating
as spending a weekend dancing
about architecture.
Nutch aims
to build an unbiased, open
source search engine. Erm...unbiased?
Can any editorial ever be unbiased?
An interesting experiment,
but the search engine wars
are really all about market
share, not technology.

Overture
to open down under (thanks
Shak).
Hadn't noticed
this before: Google
has a calculator function.
I've jumped
on the Google AdSense band-wagon,
let's see how it goes. Sure
beats a "donate" button.
Google says
this: "Web pages may not
include incentives of any kind
for users to click on ads.
This includes labeling the
ads as sponsors as well as
asking users to click on the
ads or to please visit the
sites". So I won't <laughs>
What am I
babbling on about? Lord knows.
Perhaps it's because I saw
surrealist comedian Eddie
Izzard last night. Funniest
man in the known universe.
Great dress sense. I mean that
quite literally.
