29 November 2002

Apparently there's something called Thanksgiving Day happening in the US. Well lucky you. The rest of us are working :)

Today we talk to Cindy McCaffrey, VP of Marketing at Google. Cindy kindly took time out from her busy schedule to give us an exclusive interview. And here it is...

Hornet. Nest. Stir. Google's guidelines have split the high church (or low church, depending on your point of view) of SEO in two. Here's some discussion on the matter. And more. And more. Expect even more to come...

Apparently there's been an update.

Google provides guidelines for those wishing to engage seo services.

Apparently, the key question to ask all SEO's is "does the seo report spam using Google's form". Erm...but how does that make anyone ethical? Also, ask "how many full time staffers it employs". Ohh...kay. So is bigger better?

The question on our mind is "who is this document really aiming to serve"? One thing is certain - the discussion forums will be buzzing for weeks.

We were e-mailed yesterday by the helpful folk at BlueStreamMedia. Strangely, the mail managed to dodge our spam filters (note to self: have a quiet word to layabout filter), however the e-mail specifically told us the e-mail was NOT spam. We can't recall ever signing up for their e-mail, so unless there is a new definition for unsolicited e-mail, then the statement is quite possibly true.

Anyway, the helpful chap was contacting us because they "found searchengineblog.com in the search engines and thought you could profit from my services". He went on to describe their services, including search engine placement. We were intrigued. The final offer was the clincher: "Also, it costs nothing to contact me and hear my idea on how to increase your sales and traffic".

So we did.

Within minutes, we received a reply. "Please explain. I'm interested in what you guys do".

Quite frankly, this came as a bit of a surprise. We were under the distinct impression they had carefully considered our business before sending the mail. We told them so.

We've yet to receive a reply.

In any case, the offer sounded so special that we felt compelled to share it in the hope that you guys get to hear "the idea". So, we'd encourage all those who read this to get in touch with jasons@BlueStreamMedia.com and ask "how to increase your sales and traffic". We know y'all are always keen on this stuff.

And finally, a barbie blog. Possibly.
