Careerbuilder
choose FAST over Google for search technology. "chief
technology officer Eric Presley says he wanted a search
technology that would automatically return matches from
pay-for-position clients rather than only returning
results based on traditional search-term relevancy.
Fast met Presley's requirements and offered speed far
beyond what CareerBuilder had experienced, making it
unnecessary to cache pages. "We can peak at up
to 130 to 140 searches per second".
Where
next for RSS? It's a great idea, just needs a friendly
face and tight browser integration.
Innovative
search service Kartoo teams up with Overture. "Under
this agreement, Overtures Pay-For-Performance
search listings are displayed on the left hand side
of kartoo.com search results page".
Better
Bayesian filtering for e-mail spam. Perhaps more
sophisticated algos are the answer?
And finally, we're stealing this one
from Jeffrey Zeldman:
"I refuse
to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound
to the starless midnight of racism and war that the
bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become
a reality.... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional
love will have the final word. ML

Googlert
is a Google API query tool. You can use it to keep
track of all sorts of things ;)
A tech commentator questions why
Google don't charge searchers for searching. Erm...perhaps
the writer should consider how important market share
is to a company that operates in a competitive space
with a fairly low barrier to entry.
And finally, Iconwar.

The State Of
Search Engine Marketing, 2003. We look back at some
of our interviews in 2002, and draw a few conclusions.
"I added
1000's of new subscribers, had bumper sales this month
and a right SEM laugh". Mike Grehan had a largely
positive experience after his encounter with "the
first chat-show host of blog". Death threats go
with the territory, especially when you dare to mention
cloaki...(ducks).
New additional to Google home page:
Google
Tour.
Yahoo!
and ACNielsen Release Seventh Quarterly Wave of Internet
Confidence Index. Projected spending for Q1 2003
remains strong .
Christina Buu-Hoan, who we linked
to last week, sent us a nice thank-you note. Christina
has had a lot of feedback about her article,
some of which she has published on her site (see reader
comments at the bottom of her artcle).
Chris Ridings laments the fact that
"a
dog ate our interview" last week. There's still
some very interesting people we have lined up - be sure
to keep your dial pointing to the searchengineblog.com
internet chat show. Perhaps "we" should change
our name to Jerry. Or Oprah.
And finally, Google sees all. Either
Bush is exhibiting "genuine leadership" or
the PR machine has kicked into overdrive.
