Search Engine Watch Awards winners announced. Mostly Google, so no surprises there. Nice to see Webmasterworld got a Special Recognition Award - well deserved, congratulations Brett.

Yahoo hires Overture Search exec. It appears that Yahoo may offer their own paid search model in future, however the current Overture contract runs until 2005.

Finally, sitting at your computer can kill you.

Looks like Looksmart may have got it right. First profit reported, "Revenues Up 65%; Net Income of $3.4 Million Excluding Net Gain Related to BT LookSmart Settlement".

"An insight into the problems faced by Microsoft indealing with the Slammer (aka Sapphire) worm is revealed in internal company memos leaked to El Reg". Microsoft struggle to contain the nasty bug, and the PR fallout.

And finally, "16-year-old Irish student has startled the Internet world by creating a new Web browser that may -- or may not -- be able to goose browsing times by 600 percent. But the speed claims for the browser -- which comes with 120 search engines, all the major media players, a DVD player, and an HTML and WAP editor built in -- have drawn criticism because no one has yet been able to clock it".

It appears that Fast were reading us last week, so we've jacked up an interview. A little bird also tells us that Fast are in for some big changes, likely within the first Q.

An unrelated little bird tells us that those using rank checkers might be in for a crackdown shortly. Numerous engines mentioned....

It's all very secret squirrel today isn't it? Here's something from the newsfeeds: Google cache potentially reveals DOD flaw. Anyone want a .mil domain name? For free?

From Googleblog: "In SearchKing v. Google the judge has denied SearchKing's request for preliminary injuction. In other words, SearchKing asked for their PageRank to be put back to where it was while the trial was being held, and the judge said no".

And finally, the year the music dies. And we're not talking file trading.

This week, "the Jerry Springer of Internet chat" talks to Ammon Johns, a successful UK based internet marketer. Ammon bases his approach around ROI.

As we reported earlier this week, Google catches out a Bush letters-to-the-editor campaign. That god-darn phrase matching.

Not content with predicting the year in advance, Wired offers tech predictions for the coming decade! The predictions include the end of search engines and the rise of the semantic web.

Google Premium listings vs Adwords. This thread asks if there is a difference in terms of ROI.

And finally, the 100 greatest music videos of all time. Great analysis too, although we think the Verve should have won.
