Search
Engine Watch Awards winners announced. Mostly Google,
so no surprises there. Nice to see Webmasterworld got
a Special Recognition Award - well deserved, congratulations
Brett.
Yahoo
hires Overture Search exec.
It appears that Yahoo may offer their own paid search
model in future, however the current Overture contract
runs until 2005.
Finally, sitting
at your computer can kill you.

Looks like Looksmart
may have got it right. First profit reported, "Revenues
Up 65%; Net Income of $3.4 Million Excluding Net Gain
Related to BT LookSmart Settlement".
"An insight
into the problems faced by Microsoft indealing with
the Slammer (aka Sapphire) worm is revealed in internal
company memos leaked to El Reg". Microsoft struggle
to contain the nasty bug, and the PR fallout.
And finally,
"16-year-old Irish student has startled the Internet
world by creating
a new Web browser that may -- or may not -- be able
to goose browsing times by 600 percent. But the speed
claims for the browser -- which comes with 120 search
engines, all the major media players, a DVD player,
and an HTML and WAP editor built in -- have drawn criticism
because no one has yet been able to clock it".

Interesting article
suggests SEOs remember to target, especially as web
users get more savvy.
All quiet on the search front today,
so here's a few diversions:
State
of the Union drinking game , www.segwaychat.com
(chat for segway owners, and those who really, really
want a ride on one) , and a humourous twist on the N*gerian
letter scam,
involving someone called Bush

It appears that Fast were reading
us last week, so we've jacked up an interview. A little
bird also tells us that Fast are in for some big
changes, likely within the first Q.
An unrelated little bird tells us
that those using rank checkers might be in for a crackdown
shortly. Numerous engines mentioned....
It's all very secret squirrel today
isn't it? Here's something from the newsfeeds: Google
cache potentially reveals DOD flaw. Anyone want
a .mil domain name? For free?
From Googleblog:
"In SearchKing v. Google the judge has denied SearchKing's
request for preliminary injuction. In other words, SearchKing
asked for their PageRank to be put back to where it
was while the trial was being held, and the judge said
no".
And finally,
the
year the music dies. And we're not talking file
trading.
PS: Update.

This week, "the Jerry Springer
of Internet chat" talks
to Ammon Johns, a successful UK based internet marketer.
Ammon bases his approach around ROI.
As we reported earlier this week,
Google
catches out a Bush letters-to-the-editor campaign.
That god-darn phrase matching.
Not content with predicting the year
in advance, Wired offers tech
predictions for the coming decade! The predictions
include the end of search engines and the rise of the
semantic web.
Google
Premium listings vs Adwords. This thread asks if
there is a difference in terms of ROI.
And finally, the
100 greatest music videos of all time. Great analysis
too, although we think the Verve should have won.
