If you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t have it
Or can you?
The Black Card is code for the American Express Centurion Card. The Centurion, pictured in the top left corner of the card, is the Roman soldier in command of 100 men. One wonders if these 100 men include only kings and lords. Lore has it that the black card is forged of aluminum, carbon graphite, or perhaps titanium – no one knows for sure. And when you carry the black card, you are anything but invisible.
And now, you say, you must have it. Here are the keys:
Key #1: Get an American Express Card. Those who would wish to exclude you will tell you that it must be Platinum, but that is not so. Any American Express card will do, if used properly. To use it properly, you must use the next key.
Key #2: Use the card often. You must run up $250,000 in charges in one year.
Use your card to pay for every expense and every investment you possibly can
Key #3: Get around the credit limit. Make not only the monthly payments to pay your card in full, but more frequent payments, perhaps two to three times per month.
Key #4: It has been said before, perhaps subtly, but it bears repeating: mind your credit. Be impeccable in paying off your debtors on time and in full, and don’t go over your limit, lest they extract a pound of flesh or shriek – withhold the black card.
Key #5: Apply for the card. Some say that it is by invitation only. That may be true, but who says you can’t invite yourself? Times have changed, and sometimes worthy ones must make themselves known. Call customer service at American Express at 1.800.263.1616 and tell them you want in to the Secret Society. Better yet, tell them you would like to apply for the black card.
Key #6: Pay your $5000 initiation fee.
Key #7: Pay your $2500 annual fee.
Key #8: Receive your black card.
Key #9: Enjoy the magic of the game with your new black card.
