9 May 02 - If you're looking for truth, look for weblogs. Well, a truth of sorts - at least that truth hasn't been misrepresented (Editors note: you're fired!). Interesting article about the big media lie.

Spin gone mad: Looksmart broadens Infospace deal. How exciting.

The Internet may be in danger of being consumed by dinosaurs. Interview with net freedom fighter Lawrence Lessig describes how content and innovation may be stifled as big media companies seek control of the network.

8 May 02 - The magic box scam. Inventor claims to have invented a device that sends high bandwidth data over conventional phone lines.

How Google got it right. Hi-tech darling used old fashioned word-of-mouth to spread it's message.

Looksmart fallout continues. Influential search spokesman Danny Sullivan damns with faint.. erm..criticism.

7 May 02 - Is Yahoo losing the plot? Internet directories morph in order to find a workable business model.

It looks like it's "possible" that the MS operating system can be divorced from internet browser. A computer scientist testifying for Microsoft may have done the company more harm than good.

The BBC launch a Google-powered search engine.

6 May 02 - According to Jamie Kellner, chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting, "Any time you skip a commercial....you're actually stealing the programming". Huh? We've ignored at least 100 banner ads this morning alone - better turn ourselves in :) To see if Hollywood considers you a criminal, see the top 10 new copyright crimes.

Interview with the Mama.com search service on monitoring Pay-Per-Click fraud.

Winners don't necessarily take all. A look at how link popularity can be used to your advantage when you exploit niches.

3 May 02 - More on the AOL-Google deal. Article raises a good point about the (lack of) future of search properties such as AltaVista, Inktomi and Looksmart. It looks like there's a search shake-out on the horizon.

Hollywood vs the computer: Hollywood are concerned that you might want to set-up your own broadcasting service.

Satirewire interviews the AskJeeves search engine, which explains how the Internet is somewhat like a non-arthritic New Zealand bee.

2 May 02 - Googles quest for world domination continues unabated. Google announces multi-year deal with AOL.

Another media behemoth objects to deep linking. What will they object to next - tv guides? We blame poor web design(er) metaphors that imply sites have only one front door. What is the web if not a collection of hyperlinks?

1 May 02 - New Flipper meta search engine ensures users won't be able to get that damn theme tune out of their heads.

Interesting community building project. Reader contributed photos sharing a common theme.

Mixing George Bush and Britney Spears is funny. Also reveals that Washington Post political reporters have way too much time on their hands.

30 April 02 - Will content providers soon be able to charge micro-payments for access to content? Reverse SMS billing offers one solution.

Does Google editorialise? Their AdWords service highlights how the previously "there are no rules" Google has erm...quite a few rules, actually.

29 April 02 - Overture beats wall street expectations. Paid search the new darling of the online marketing world.

Now that we've become a clearinghouse for Google press releases, here's another: Google updates news searches. Now you can search by date and (shock) relevance.

Looksmart continues with the revolutionary business model: place feet in mouth, shoot feet. They're even got their own satirical sites.

23 April 02 - Undocumented Google feature: date based searching.

Google (again - you'd think there was only one search engine) deftly deals with Scientology law suit.

And in a shocking "non-google" related link, Windows zealots will appreciate this Apple paraody. (Disclaimer: We have both PCs and Apples. We have no strong allegiances either way, so long as the T1 is working :)

22 April 02 - German rail operator sues Google for indexing a page that offers instructions on how to sabotage railway systems.

Will they ever learn? Designers who use JavaScript for their site navigation without offering an alternative render sites invisible. Clueless.

Yahoodwinked - We promise to respect your privacy and your wishes -- until such time as we don't.

20 April 02 - We've been asked why we don't feature any New Zealand sites on our weblog. Well, none have appeared on our (very) personal radar, until today. Try this:you can spin round and round while looking down on Wellington.

...and spinning round is best done when listening to the Strokes - in our humble opinion (very cool site, too).

19 April 02 - Interesting article on how linking strategies contribute to the success of your site. Peer review is now "everything" on the web.

What do weblogs and Marxism have in common? We know one thing - traditional print media has a new fight on it's hands. Find out why Weblogs Are To Words What Napster Was To Music

The first casualty of war is truth - refreshing take on the supposed war on terrorism.

18 April 02 - According to the record companies, the internet is responsible for killing the music business. Strangely enough, they said the same thing about the player piano roll. Perhaps failing to understand the customer might have something to do with it?

Google files patent application. One interesting section refers to "...mapping information...based on a standard telephone keypad". wapgoogle.com anyone?

15 April 02 - Looksmart manage to alienate their entire customer base with a nasty bait and switch. A lesson in how not to win friends and influence people.
